Frankston European Inspired Kitchen
With so many sources of kitchen design inspiration and photographs, it may not be difficult to pinpoint exactly what you want, but it is difficult to make it work within the allocated area. That is where a designer comes in. A Smith & Smith designer met with the owners of this Frankston home. He came in with fresh eyes and years of design experience. He took in the style of the home, the location of the kitchen and the clients’ desires and began drafting this European inspired beauty.
While the kitchen draws on traditional styling, it is not your average traditional kitchen. Modern ideas, such as a cooking alcove with clean lines and LED strip lighting and a bifold window mark this kitchen as of this era, yet harking back to a time when quality craftsmanship was on display. The simplicity of form combined with quality craftsmanship and ergonomics are hallmarks of Smith & Smith and also tip the hat to European kitchen design.
Cabinetry in this kitchen gives the illusion of wall panelling because the bulkhead meets the top cabinetry and because there are no handles breaking it up. With a unique light provincial door profile that was split across two pot-drawers to retain the larger format, the unity and minimalism of the look are created. A third drawer is concealed at the top of the drawer banks, all with a push-to-open mechanism.
The dark timber of the herringboned floor is picked up in the built-in wine rack, shelving for the pantry and the lining of the cooking alcove. The fresh brightness of the white cabinetry with textured two pack polyurethane finish is complemented by the chocolate tones of the timber to create an inviting kitchen that delights the senses.
While some detailing is delicate, there is a sense of sturdiness. This look was achieved by the addition of plynth bases on end units, V groove panelling inside the pantry, bulkhead to meet the top of cabinetry and the 80mm Elba marble benchtops and splashback.
