BOURNE: A Kitchen with a Licence to Thrill
Shortlisted in the HIA Renovated Kitchen $50,000–$100,000 category, BOURNE fuses sculptural stone, smart technology, and cinematic detailing. It’s bold, intelligent and it knows how to make an entrance.
Setting the Scene
When designer Tony first met the homeowner, the mission was clear: this kitchen needed to make a statement. The brief? Clear bench spaces, layered lighting, wine display, and a strong connection to the alfresco area.
“I felt that introducing a beautiful stone would not only make this area stunning,” Tony recalls, “but create an opportunity for it to flow through the home.”
And flow it does — from the hero kitchen through to an integrated under-stair wine cellar, to the statement ‘trophy’ garage integrated into the billiards room - all softly illuminated by carefully considered LED lighting.
Function Meets Impact
Behind its glamour, BOURNE is all precision. Every element has been designed for ease of use: from thoughtfully planned prep zones and electric-opening bins, to a concealed breakfast nook and coffee station with cup drawers exactly where you’d reach for them.
Small appliances are tucked neatly away, allowing the stone island to take centre stage — a sculptural surface that doubles as a generous entertaining zone for family and friends. Martinis optional.
Material Intelligence
The visual statement is undeniable. The Super White Dolomite island — its veining meticulously aligned — reads like a single piece of carved stone. “We wanted the island to look as though it had been sculpted from one block,” Tony explains.
This dramatic centrepiece is balanced by handless 2-pack satin cabinetry in Dulux Night Sky, a rich tone that enhances the Dolomite’s natural depth. Touchless, dimmable LED lighting brings versatility, shifting easily from task brightness to evening ambience.
Custom batten-style overhead doors and back panels tie the design back to the adjoining alfresco, maintaining a seamless sense of flow.
Hidden Genius
It’s in the details that BOURNE really packs a punch. Drawer storage for crockery and cutlery is ergonomically designed so the dishwasher can be unloaded with minimal movement. A flush, stone pop-up power station rises from the island when needed — and vanishes as swiftly as it appears.
A Design As Unique As A Fingerprint
BOURNE was created in line specific lifestyle demands of the homeowners. It’s a study in balance — high-tech yet warm, sculptural yet deeply functional. From the monolithic island to the hidden mechanisms and seamless lighting, every element has been resolved for both performance and presence. Its shortlisting in the HIA Renovated Kitchen $50,000–$100,000 category recognises not only the technical excellence of the build, but the collaboration between designer and homeowner in achieving something truly special. A kitchen that performs beautifully, and looks even better doing it.
